Myths of Lawn Care.

Many people think there are tricks to getting out of doing normal lawn care duties. Here are two myths that are common mistakes:

Cutting the grass shorter so you have to do it less often. This strategy may work to get you out of cutting the lawn every week, however it can be detrimental to your lawn. Too short of grass can promote weeds such has quack grass and other broad leaf weeds that can cause much larger headaches and expenses down the road. We suggest cutting the grass weekly at a standard height no lower than 3 inches. This helps promote thicker lush grass year round. It also helps the lawn retain moisture during the drier parts of summer.

The second mistake is to water your lawn whenever it’s convenient for you. Many people water during the middle of the day and don’t realize that much of that water is lost to evaporation and wind. We suggest watering in the morning or evening to allow the water the best chance to soak into the roots and retain as much as possible.

Simple Ways to Improve Your Lawn.

Maintaining a healthy, thick lawn can be difficult, but here are a few simple steps that can help improve the quality of your lawn. One of the first things we suggest is to use a good fertilizing program. Not all fertilizer is the same. There are specific techniques and products designed to really dial into your lawn’s needs depending on the time of the season. Using different fertilizers can allow better top growth, greenery, root structure, and seed germination depending on the time of season.

The second thing we suggest for a thicker lawn is to aerate and overseed with a premium turf seed. Aerating really promotes good root structure and allows your lawn to get the nutrients and water it needs on a root system level. Overseeding is also a great step to do after aerating. This promotes new growth and can provide an overall thicker lawn during the season. The best time to aerate is in the spring or fall depending on the condition of your lawn. These two steps will make a positive difference in the quality of your lawn.
